kenya kesho trust - shimoni, kenya
Shimoni is located about 80 km from Mombasa and 50 km from Diani beach.
Shimoni is a peaceful fishing village and a site for ancient coastal caves. These caves served as a refuge for dhow sailors, explorers and slaves. Shimoni, in Swahili, means the ‘place of the caves’.
With the introduction of free primary education, the schools in our location are overcrowded thus prompting us to come up with the idea of the Kenya Kesho Trust. Some schools have about 700 kids.
We also pay school fees for the bright students from poor families who pass primary school exams to enable them to pursue secondary education. Due to shortage of teachers we have come up with the idea of funding some teachers to help teach in all the primary schools here thus adding more teachers in schools in our location.
We have 10 primary schools in our jurisdiction and our target is to put about 3 teachers in each school.
The schools are located in forested areas but we have unveiled good plans of reaching them.
Some are across the island and we will mostly be using our dinghy to ferry us to the other side.
We also support a deaf school which is within our location.
Kenya Kesho Trust is a charitable trust that is strictly set to support local community development and conservation initiatives. We support schools and do research education for the benefit of the wildlife and the community.
